About me

From Canada, but home is where the heart is.

I was raised in northern British Columbia along the magnificent Skeena River, in the wild rainforest on the edge of the town of Terrace. It is from here that I began my love affair with nature.

After high school I eventually ended up joining the Canadian Navy as an officer onboard combat ships. I was given the extraordinary opportunity to travel the world, develop amazing friendships and overcome tremendous challenges. The Navy taught me a lot about who I did and did not want to be. It instilled in me a desire to continue my travels and to engage with different cultures.

When I retired from the military I went back to university and got my degrees in archaeological sciences and Egyptian archaeology. This led me to further travel to the Middle East, and North and West Africa in pursuit of knowledge and adventure.

My life has been one grand (but challenging) stepping stone after another, and I have been blessed to work in the sands of the Sahara, on the vast oceans, and in the breathtaking and frozen Arctic.

I have been inspired to seek meaningful work and to appreciate all the wonders around me. This quote by Christopher Columbus has always reminded me to keep moving forward.

“You can never cross the ocean unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore.”
