Ancient and Modern Egyptian Species Extinctions
A presentation to the Society for the Study of Egyptian Antiquities (SSEA) Toronto chapter - January 30, 2025
I was happy to be asked to present on a topic that I thoroughly enjoyed researching. This presentation focused on iconic Egyptian species that have become extirpated or are at risk.
I wished to share my passion for environmental conservation with my love of all things Egyptological. In addition to highlighting the previous and current extinction crisis, I spoke to the species associated with many Ancient Egyptian gods and goddesses. I rounded out the talk discussing current policies, acts, protected areas and actions the Government of Egypt has taken to protect endangered animals.
The slides for the entire presentation can be accessed on Academia. The bibliography is available on request.
