Moving Chaos

I know I haven’t posted much recently as I’ve been in the throes of moving chaos, this time a move from a condo (the owner says his son wants to move in) to a nearby apartment building.

Lord knows I have moved a lot over the years - mostly for work. I have moved eight times in the past ten years:

  • Whitehorse, Yukon

  • Giza, Egypt

  • Toronto, Ontario

  • Moncton, New Brunswick

  • Vernon, British Columbia

  • Prince George, British Columbia

  • Whitehorse, Yukon

  • Calgary, Alberta

To say I’m tired of moving would be an understatement. I hope my recent move (within Calgary) will be my very last move within Canada.[1] It is both expensive and (mentally and physically) exhausting. Not only do you need to find a new place (and fill out applications including provide banking details and income statements, insurance and electricity transfer documents), pack, arrange moving times (to hopefully coincide) between different buildings, pay new damage deposits, pay for mail forwarding, make address changes from your driver’s license to the Canada Revenue Agency (income tax). It is all just mentally exhausting and the physical toll is high - I’ve been sore all over for a week.

Moving from city to city can however give you a new perspective and challenges. I thrive on change (not everyone does). However the physical work and mindless bureaucratic details of moving are tiresome to say the least.

My new apartment has one big new benefit - huge, south-facing windows and a view of the mountains in the distance. Another benefit of moving is getting rid of items you no longer use, whether that is an old bicycle, planters or used clothing. It is a type of catharsis to downsize.

I just wanted to share my new view with all of you! (sunrise and sunset)

Thank you for your patience as I haven’t had so much time to write.
I also need to give a big thanks to my friend Heather for her immense help and support during this latest move. I couldn’t be more grateful for her unflinching willingness to help when needed.

[1] I hope to move full-time to Egypt within the next two years.
